What do you look forward to at work?
There is a fantastic social aspect working for Ricardo, which really helps contribute to productivity - you can easily go to anyone with any problems or queries that you may have. To complement this, there are a great deal of projects you can get involved in and everyone is more than happy to show you what it is they do.
What does your average day here look like?
My day primarily consists of lab work and there are several aspects to the lab that must be completed in a 2-week window. As well as this, I also manage calibration and repair of field team instrumentation, whilst also receiving additional training in other areas of the office.
What was your department’s latest achievement and how was it celebrated?
We recently rebid for our contract with the Environment Agency and won a very important extension for it. It was a great achievement and a testament to everyone’s hard work in the laboratory. We received praise from the Business Area Manager and the Project Manager on this.
How have you been able to develop your career since joining Ricardo?
I was brought on as an Apprentice Lab Technician so a lot of development has happened over the last 3 years. I started doing some basic lab work in line with the college course I was doing, and have since progressed into becoming a laboratory manager in that lab. I am now also developing in other areas including the field team and the particle measurement centre.
