Glasgow employees

The Glasgow office is home to over 30 members of our staff, working over two floors in our modern, open plan, city centre premises in Blythswood Square – an area of impressive redeveloped Georgian townhouses that were once home to Glasgow’s famous merchants.

The varied skills of the Glasgow team mean they work on a wide range of exciting and world leading projects for Scottish public, private and third sector clients. This includes providing expertise to support the Scottish Government’s pioneering environmental targets in areas such as resource efficiency, renewable energy, the circular economy and air quality.

The Glasgow team also includes marketing and administration specialists who support a number of these projects, as well as some of our largest market transformation programmes.

Our Scottish Office relocated from Ayrshire to Glasgow City Centre in June 2013 and the staff have been spoiled with the opportunities that the city offers for socialising ever since.

From the lunchtime walking group that meets regularly during the summer months to take in some of the cities famous landmarks, to exhilarating speed boat rides along the city’s famous river Clyde, our team makes the most of what the city has to offer.

And it’s fair to say, with one of Western Europe’s busiest nightlife spots on our doorstep, enjoying the local bars and restaurants is a popular choice.

Being in Scotland, and only a short 30 minute-drive from the beauty of Loch Lomond and the gateway to the Highlands, it’s not all about the city centre nightlife though. Days out on the mountains and ‘Munro-bagging’ are a popular group activity and our team previously put that walking to good use by supporting the Water Aid Mountain Challenge.

Recent team building and social days have seen the team driving land rovers blind-folded across the Scottish hillside, playing Frisbee golf through an ancient forest in Perthshire, playing indoor golf, go karting, laser tagging, deep sea fishing off Scotland’s beautiful west coast, and paintballing, to name just a few. There’s always something going on in this fun and lively office.

Having been awarded a Healthy Working Lives certificate, there’s also a lot of group activities on the go that are designed to keep the office healthy and active, including various social events and active lifestyle competitions, healthy baking competitions and a healthy-eating soup club.

The Glasgow office is also a Cycle Friendly Employer – a nationally recognised award given to our business’s Glasgow office because we encourage cycling as a healthy, sustainable and accessible way to travel to work.

Glasgow commute

As you can imagine, from the office’s enviable position in the heart of Glasgow, our local staff are spoiled for choice when it comes to commuter options.

Situated just a short 10 to 15 minute walk away from both Queen Street and Glasgow Central stations, both the east and west of the country are commuting options for the office.

Queen Street runs frequent trains to Edinburgh with a journey time of around 45 minutes. Glasgow Central serves the West, to Renfrewshire and Ayrshire – with Paisley 10 minutes away and Mearns, Irvine, Beith and Dalry all around 25-35 minutes away.

Similarly, the office is a 5-minute walk away from all the major bus routes. Buchanan Street bus station is a 15-20 minute walk away.

The Glasgow office is situated only a few hundred yards away from Scotland’s busiest motorway, the M8, making the office accessible by car too. And there are plenty of parking options. There are several car parks close to the office in the city centre, but they do have high prices – at around £20 per day. Cheaper parking from £5 – £7 is available further away from the city centre, though these car parks tend to fill up early, and leave around a 15-20-minute walk to the office.

The bridge is known locally as 'the squinty bridge'.

Site information

The office is situated in Glasgow City Centre on Blythswood Square which, along with neighbouring Anderston, is at the heart of Glasgow’s financial and commercial district.

Our office is situated over two floors at number 18 Blythswood Square, on the south side of the square, overlooking private gardens. The gardens are open at lunchtime in the summer months for businesses in the neighbourhood to enjoy.

Most other businesses in the neighbourhood are other professional services firms, including estate agents, architects, financial advisers and other consultancies - with the exception of the impressive Blythswood Square Hotel that sits on the entire east side of the square and is Glasgow’s only hotel with AA five-star accreditation.

As host City to the Commonwealth Games in 2014, it’s no surprise that Glasgow has plenty of opportunities and modern facilities for sporting enthusiasts.

There are several city centre gyms within a 5-minute walk of the office, which many of the local staff take advantage of during lunch breaks or after work. Membership starts from around £15 per month.

To the west of the City, Snozone offers indoor skiing, ice skating and curling clubs. Even further west, you will find some of the world's best golf clubs, with two world-renowned Open championship venues within an hour of the office – Trump Turnberry and Royal Troon. The cost of golf club membership has come down considerably in recent years with many clubs offering membership packages from as little as £200 per year.

As you would expect from Scotland’s largest city, there is also no shortage of cafes, restaurants, takeaways and shopping within a 2-minute walk of the office.
